Visit to Prospective Toilet Beneficiary
Tuesday, 19th August 2025 – 1:00 pm

On Tuesday, 19th August 2025 at 1:00 pm, we carried out a site visit to assess a potential beneficiary for a new toilet construction. The purpose of the visit was to review the household’s current situation and evaluate the feasibility of providing support.

Those present were Ravi, Anita, and GS Sivaruben.

The prospective beneficiaries are a family of six. The mother of the household is disabled, and therefore the toilet needs to be constructed in a way that will be easier for a disabled person to use.

The government had funded part of the construction, but no further funds are available to complete the toilet. Because of this, the family has requested assistance.

Family particulars were duly taken down, and GS signed the request-for-help form.

Summary: Visit to a six-member family where the disabled mother requires a toilet adapted for her needs; request for assistance documented.

Official Handover: Project BN005: Empowering a Family with Dignity Through Sanitation

We are proud to share the successful completion of Project BN005 — the construction and handover of a brand-new toilet facility for a local family in need. This initiative, spearheaded by the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai and fully sponsored by Lion S. Ravisangar, represents a vital step toward improving community sanitation and promoting the dignity and well-being of underserved families.

A Memorable Handover Ceremony

The handover ceremony was a heartwarming and meaningful event, attended by a host of distinguished guests and community members. Among those present were:

  • GS Mr. Raj Khanna

  • Lion Uthaysooriyan Anna, Lions Club Director

  • President Lion Thiruchenthuran

  • Lion Punitham Acca

  • Lion Nanthan Anna, Lions Club Secretary

  • Lion Jeyanthan

  • Lion Umapathy Uncle

  • Lion Vijendran Anna

  • Lion Sritharan

  • Lion S. Ravisangar

  • Mrs. A. Ravisangar

Also in attendance were Mr. Thavam Satheeswaran, the grateful beneficiary of the facility, along with his family, the mason and his family, neighbours, and close friends.

Messages of Hope and Community Commitment

The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, an auspicious ritual performed to mark the beginning of important occasions. Several members were invited to take part in this symbolic tradition.

Following this, GS Mr. Raj Khanna officially opened the event with a heartfelt speech, blessing the occasion and acknowledging the collaborative effort behind the project.

Lion Thiruchenthuran then addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of the project and the Lions Club’s commitment to service. He was followed by Lion Uthaysooriyan, who expressed sincere thanks to Lion S. Ravisangar and his wife for their support and sponsorship. He commended Lion Ravisangar’s unwavering drive to support underserved people and communities in any way he can, adding that he was proud to have introduced him to the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai, which is now privileged to be part of such meaningful initiatives.

All the speeches reflected the strong spirit of compassion, unity, and service that defines the mission of the Lions Club.

The Journey Behind Project BN005

Lion Ravisangar delivered an insightful address outlining the journey of Project BN005. He explained that the selection process began with site visits conducted alongside Logi Acca and GS Raj Khanna. After thorough evaluation and recommendations by GS and DS, the Satheeswaran family was chosen based on their level of need and specific circumstances.

He also praised the family’s proactive efforts in securing permission from the Pradeshiya Sabha, and their hands-on contribution to digging the toilet pit and foundation, which helped significantly reduce construction costs.

In closing, he emphasized the importance of obtaining a Letter of Conformity from the local authority — a document confirming that the structure has been built in accordance with approved plans and building regulations.

Community Impact and Gratitude

The beneficiary family expressed heartfelt gratitude for this essential facility, which will bring a meaningful improvement to their quality of life. Access to safe, hygienic sanitation is a basic human right, and this project is a clear example of how focused, compassionate efforts can create lasting impact.

Recognizing the Hands Behind the Work

A special acknowledgment goes to the dedicated mason, whose disciplined work ethic and craftsmanship were instrumental in completing the project on time and to a high standard. His commitment is a reflection of the teamwork and professionalism that drive successful community initiatives.

Official Ribbon-Cutting

Following the speeches, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place. Thavam Satheeswaran and his wife had the honour of cutting the ribbon to mark the toilet facility open for use — a proud and emotional moment for all involved.

Looking Ahead

Project BN005 stands as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when individuals and organizations unite with a shared sense of purpose. The Lions Club of Vaddukoddai remains committed to uplifting lives and fostering positive, sustainable change in our community.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this meaningful project.

Project Update – BN005

The final batch of materials for BN005 was delivered today, allowing the team to complete the few remaining tasks. With the newly plastered walls now fully dry, whitewashing was carried out, followed by the installation of the door and fitting of the lock.

All construction work was completed by the evening. A representative from GLF visited the site to conduct a final inspection, ensuring that everything was in order and met our quality standards ahead of the official handover to the beneficiary, scheduled for Thursday, 24th July 2025.

Photographs were taken to document the finished structure and will be added to our project records.

This milestone marks yet another toilet successfully completed for a deserving family, contributing to our broader mission of improving sanitation, hygiene, and living conditions within the community.

Delivery and Progress Update: BN005 Toilet Project – Nearing the Finish Line!

We’re pleased to share excellent progress from the BN005 toilet project today. While our goal was to complete all work by the end of the day, unforeseen delays in material supply once again held us back. The shortage wasn’t communicated until around 5:30 PM, which limited our ability to respond during regular hours.

That said, today did bring a few key wins. The squatting pan and a Landmaster of sand were successfully delivered to site—both critical components for the final stages of construction. With these now on hand, the team is well-positioned to push through the remaining tasks.

We also received outstanding support from our local supplier, who went out of their way—despite being officially closed—to make two extra bags of cement available for collection. Thanks to their dedication and quick action by the BN005 team, work was able to continue well into the evening.

One of our GLF team members visited the site during the evening and was impressed by the visible progress. All internal walls have now been plastered, marking the completion of major construction. The focus now shifts to finishing work, including installation of the toilet, final painting, and minor touch-ups.

We remain hopeful that everything will be completed by Sunday, 20 July 2025, though the final timeline will depend on how much can be accomplished tomorrow.

Stay tuned for the final update and photos once the project wraps up!

Delivery: BN005 Construction Update – Nearing Completion

This afternoon, we received a call from site BN005 requesting an urgent delivery of sand to continue construction of the toilet facility. With completion scheduled for this weekend, we were disappointed not to have been informed earlier of the material shortage.

To avoid any delays, we acted quickly and were able to arrange a Landmaster delivery through our local supplier, who kindly accommodated us despite the short notice.

A team member visited the site to assess progress and capture photos. We're pleased to report that the toilet walls have now been fully constructed and the roof has also been completed.

We have advised BN005 that the squatting pan and accessories will be delivered on Saturday, 19th July 2025. The project is on track and nearing completion.

Delivery: Proactive Delivery Ensures Progress at BN005 Remains on Track

At GLF, we understand that timely coordination and proactive decision-making are key to maintaining project momentum. This approach was recently demonstrated at site BN005, where we took initiative to ensure that critical work would not be delayed.

The toilet door required for the site was ready at the carpenter’s workshop, but due to uncertainties regarding timely delivery, the GLF team decided not to wait. Instead, a team member personally collected the door and delivered it directly to BN005.

This proactive step eliminated the risk of delay, allowing on-site work to continue without disruption. By anticipating potential setbacks and addressing them early, we were able to uphold our commitment to efficient and timely project delivery.

This is just one example of how GLF stays ahead of challenges to keep our projects moving forward.

Delivery: Steady Progress and Full Delivery at BN005

It was a productive day at BN005, marked by the arrival of the third delivery—a shipment that included roof sheets, bolts, and nuts. With this final delivery, all necessary materials are now on site to construct the roof of the toilet room, allowing the team to move ahead without delay.

A site inspection was conducted during the delivery, confirming that both plates for the twin pit system have been completed, and two walls of the toilet room have already been built. The progress reflects the team’s efficiency and commitment to maintaining momentum on-site.

To document the development, photographs were taken as part of our ongoing progress tracking. We look forward to seeing further advancement at BN005 in the coming days as construction moves closer to completion.
