Meeting: BN001 Reconnecting and Clarifying Next Steps

Today, the BN001 family visited one of our project sites to enquire about the timeline for the construction of their toilet facility. Their visit was unexpected, as we had not received any communication from them since mid-January, when they had informed us that building approval had been granted.

At that time, we explained that the digging of the toilet pit and foundation was their responsibility, and that we would proceed to the next phase once this preparation was completed. We also advised them to contact us once weather conditions improved, as persistent rain had made it impractical to begin construction during that period.

However, over the following 4.5 months, no further communication was received and no site preparation was carried out. Given this prolonged silence and lack of progress, we reasonably assumed that the family had chosen not to move forward with the project.

In the meantime, and in response to urgent and confirmed needs from other families, we reallocated our limited resources and successfully completed toilet construction for two other deserving households who were ready to proceed.

During today’s discussion, the BN001 family confirmed that the toilet pit and foundation had still not been dug, despite the time that had passed. We expressed concern that the urgency of the project might not have been as high a priority as originally indicated. We also explained that, due to the extended lack of communication and inaction, the resources originally earmarked for their project had since been reallocated to families in more immediate need.

As such, we are currently unable to support the BN001 toilet project. However, we reassured the family that should additional resources become available in the future, we would be happy to reconsider their application and reach out to reinitiate the process.
